The USCIS is tasked with efficiently adjudicating immigration petitions. A part of this task is to ensure that it is not approving fraudulent immigration applications. As is demonstrated by a recent LA Times Article, the USCIS is working hard to stop immigration fraud. A few highlights from the article:
– The USCIS is planning to expand its work place enforcement visits to 25,000 this fiscal year. (Up from 5,000 last year).
– last year 60% of all religious worker petitions were DENIED. Mostly out of fears of widespread fraud.
– the number of USCIS anti-fraud officers has grown from 100 to 600 in the last six years.
– the number of USCIS fraud investigations has increased from 2,620 in 2005 to 31,827.
